Microwave
Leakage testing

ServiceFM’s Microwave Leakage testing programs are designed to ensure that radiation levels produced by workplace microwave ovens are within the tolerances set by the Radiation Health Committee and outlined in the AS/NZS Standard 3350.2.25.

Our microwave testing involves measurement of radiation levels around the outside of the oven and undertaken using ServiceFM’s state-of-the-art microwave survey meter designed to meet the AS/NZS Standards.

Various microwave oven components are inspected for damage to ensure correct functioning and safety and a detailed physical condition report is provided.

The electrical cord is also Tested & Tagged in accordance with Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760. This is a different test to the one for microwave leakage.

Should the microwave not pass the test, notification will be provided as soon as possible and a Danger Tag will be applied to the microwave oven.

Reporting is sent to your inbox, and can be accessed in eSafe 360 via a secure login.

Conducting annual microwave leakage tests in the workplace is important for several reasons:

  • Safety: If the microwave isn’t properly sealed and there is leakage of microwave radiation, it can pose serious health risks to people.
  • Compliance: Australian Standard AS/NZS 60335.2.25 and the Radiation Health Committee states that the allowable Microwave radiation leakage limit for microwave ovens can’t exceed 50W/m2.
  • Increase lifespan: When you catch leakage issues early, you can prevent further damage to the microwave and extend its lifespan.
  • Prevent accidents: Microwave radiation leakage can be especially dangerous in commercial catering and hospitality where microwave ovens are used extensively. Prevention is always the best method.
